Women in Otolaryngology (WIO) is a section of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery dedicated to supporting women in the specialty through mentorship, leadership opportunities, and community building, while promoting equity and representation across the field.
Dr. Elise Graham is a pediatric otolaryngologist–head and neck surgeon at the IWK Health Centre and Associate Professor at Dalhousie University. She completed medical school and residency at Dalhousie, a fellowship at the University of Utah, and previously practiced at Western University. She holds board certification in Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine and has published extensively on ankyloglossia, breastfeeding, and gender equity in surgery. Her Triological thesis, awarded With Distinction in 2024, examined gender differences in domestic responsibilities of otolaryngologists. Dr. Graham chairs the Women in Otolaryngology Section of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology and is a mother of three young children.

The Women In Surgery in ENT (WISE) Journal Club started in the Division of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. The group meets quarterly and is open to all health care providers interested in equity, diversity and inclusion.
The next WISE meeting will be on Thursday May 14th from 6 pm to 7:30 pm (PDT) and the topic is Gender Bias in Surgical Referral Patterns.
