What a great weekend it was to convene in Calgary for the 80 th Annual Meeting of the CSOHNS! We are grateful to our international colleagues for attending, in particular ourguest partners – the Korean Society of ORL-HNS.
The formal partnerships that we are building as a Society speak to the theme from our meeting this year “Canada’s role in the world – leadership through education, innovation and collaboration.” I would like to congratulate Dr. Yoo on a successful meeting and extend deepest gratitude to the local arrangements committee, scientific program chairs and our administrative support team. At the meeting this year, we heard from many speakers stressing the importance and
value of teamwork and tackling systems to ensure equity for all of our patients.

We have an important role to play not only in our specialty but within the larger health system where we can be leaders in the promotion and execution of equitable access to care, education and opportunities. It is in this sprit that I introduced the theme for the 81 st Annual Meeting – “Equity, leadership and the Future of Otolaryngology”. We must embrace our role as leaders in our field and challenge ourselves and our systems to do better. We look forward to welcoming a powerful and influential group of guest speakers to inspire us to explore ways where we can all make a difference.

We are delighted to partner with our colleagues in the Irish Otolaryngology Society and the Irish Institute of ORLHNS. Together we will convene in beautiful St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador for a memorable meeting. I encourage everyone to attend and to consider bringing their families to this Canadian jewel. It is truly an honor to be your president for the next year. I started my journey on the council as Representative for Manitoba then moved to the executive as Secretary. It  was in the latter role that I truly experienced the importance of our Society and our leadership in moving things forward. I recognize the deep trust that goes into selecting the President of our Society and I don’t take my responsibility lightly. I look forward to serving everyone well in this role and moving the needle in the name of Equity, Leadership and the Future of Otolaryngology.
