OVERALL LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

This meeting will provide participants in the specialty of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (including general and subspecialty otolaryngology – head and neck surgeons as well as resident and medical student trainees) a significant opportunity to attend sessions of interest and acquire further understanding and knowledge in areas of perceived / unperceived needs in the specialty. All subspecialties of Otolaryngology, including head & neck oncology, laryngology, rhinology, otology, neurotology, pediatric otolaryngology, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, general otolaryngology, sleep disorders, and medical education, will be well represented in the program.

In keeping with the theme of this year’s meeting, guest speakers will present their areas of expertise through plenary talks and workshops. All sessions will give learners practical and adoptable knowledge to use immediately in practice when they return home. This year’s program will include workshops and presentations for the community-based practitioners, continued information on technological advancements, and popular updates on a variety of topics such as the use of biologics in the management of nasal polyps, use of artificial intelligence in head and neck oncology, and popular tips, tricks and updates on a variety of related topics.

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to remind and invite you to attend the 2023 Meeting of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, which will be held in Toronto, Ontario, on September 9th and 10th, 2023.

This abbreviated meeting will help span the hiatus to the 2024 meeting in Montreal with a theme of “Bridging the Gap in the 6 – Reinvigorating Friendships & Maintaining Eudaemonia”. The meeting will bring together experts, researchers, clinicians, and trainees from across the country and beyond to share the latest advances and innovations in the field of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery.

We have planned a very exciting meeting that will feature keynote lectures from Dr. Emad Kandil (CAHNSO speaker), and Mr. Neil Pasricha. We will have two premeeting course on Friday the 8th of September, 2023 that are the CSOHNS frontal sinus master class and the CAHNSO Ultrasound /RFA of thyroid nodules.  The two Satellite symposia are supported by Medtronic and smith&nephew. Moreover, the meeting will feature the latest innovations and developments in the field through workshops, podium presentations, and poster sessions. There will be limited social events allowing attendees to enjoy the vibrant and diverse city of Toronto and provide ample opportunities for networking, collaboration, and mentorship. The guest of honor will be Dr. Erin Wright. Drs Hamdy El Hakim and Brian Blakley will be receiving a much deserved lifetime achievement award.

Eudaemonia is a Greek word that translates to “happiness” or “welfare” In Aristotelian ethics, it refers to the state of human flourishing or living well. It is not a state of mind or a feeling, but rather a condition of being that is achieved through actions and habits. We are very fortunate to have a world expert on this topic join us for a keynote presentation. Mr. Neil Pasricha is a Harvard MBA, New York Times bestselling author, award-winning blogger, and one of the most popular TED speakers in the world, Neil Pasricha is “a pied piper of happiness” who dazzles audiences with ideas and simple tools that skyrocket happiness and engagement. Mr. Pasricha has written 10 books including The Happiness Equation, a science-backed, habit-filled guidebook to living a happy life; Two-Minute Mornings, his simple daily practice to “win your morning”; and The Book of Awesome. Mr. Pasricha’s books have spent over 200 weeks on bestseller lists and have sold over two million copies across dozens of languages.

I look forward to seeing you in Toronto for an exciting, educational, and inspirational meeting.

 Sincerely,

Hadi Seikaly,

President of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery
