The research team at the University of Toronto and Dalhousie University are reaching out to women otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residents across Canada for participation in a research study.
Title: Guiding Resilience and Optimizing Well-being in Women in Otolaryngology (GROW)
Objective: Assess whether a 6-month professional coaching program can result in measurable improvements in well-being, job satisfaction, resilience, and reductions in burnout among women otolaryngology residents across Canada.
Participants will engage in professional coaching through the Canadian Physician Coaches Network with credentialed coaches that are experienced in working with physicians. It will include a total of 3.5 coaching hours, valued at approximately $1050CAD per person. The topics covered will include optimizing work meaning, stress management, resilience building, leadership skills, work-life integration, social support, work efficiency, workload management, hobbies and recreation, and self-care.
Participation in the study is voluntary and no direct compensation will be provided. Consenting participants will not have to pay for the coaching sessions. The coaching sessions will be confidential.
Inclusion criteria include: 1) Identify as women ; 2) currently enrolled in a Canadian otolaryngology-head and neck surgery training program; and 3) willing to participate in a 6-month professional coaching program.
The total time commitment includes ~4 hours over the course of 6 months (an initial 1 hour session, followed by 5 30-minute sessions every 3-4 weeks over 5 months). You will be expected to complete baseline and post-intervention surveys.
